Cellulite is fat that collects in pockets just below the surface
of the skin. It forms around the
hips, thighs, and buttocks. Cellulite deposits
cause
the skin to look dimpled. It is most common
in women – between 80 and 90 percent of
women may experience it at some point in their
lives. Cellulite is not harmful to
your
health. Most health care providers consider cellulite a
normal condition for many
women
and some men.
The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to
result from an interaction between
the connective tissue in the dermatological layer
that lies below the surface of the skin, and
the layer of fat that is just below it.
